GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of West Police District, Guwahati has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and prohibited the assembly of more than five persons in Bharalumukh, Fatasil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara Police Station without prior permission from competent authorities with effect from August 4. The order also bars agitation, demonstration, procession and shouting slogans in the entire West Police District.

The DCP said that some specified persons, groups or organizations are likely to disturb normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic in parts of the West Police District. It has been apprehended that such groups are planning or carry out agitation or shouting of slogans which may cause a breach of peace and public order causing disturbance or interruption of peaceful movement of traffic and also normal functioning in Guwahati city, the DCP stated. The decision was taken as a preventive measure to ensure peaceful movement of public, smooth flow of traffic and normal functioning of officers in offices in the above mentioned areas.
