GUWAHATI: As the State braces for the Assam Legislative Assembly Election, a number of people from the artiste fraternity joined the State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and the Congress on Tuesday in their quest for a political run.
Singer Simanta Sekhar, flautist Deepak Sarma, noted theatre artist Pranjana Dutta, and choreographer Pankaj Ingti are among the 28 persons who joined the BJP.
Simanta Sekhar, who also campaigned for the BJP in 2019 general elections, asserted that the party will again form government in the upcoming polls.
Welcoming the members to the party at the regional party office in Hengerabari, State party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that the BJP is not a party but a mission.
"I am happy to welcome these artistes to the party. I urge all the artistes not to compromise in their respective careers after joining politics," said Dass.
On the other hand, singer Babu, music director Ajoy Phukan and several other noted personalities joined the Congress in their party office in Guwahati.
They joined the party in presence of incharge of Assam Congress Harish Rawat and APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora.
