 GUWAHATI: As part of the India Energy Week 2023 (IEW 2023) to be held in Bengaluru from February 6-February 8, 2023, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Hardeep Singh Puri in presence of Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Labour and Employment, Government of India, Rameswar Teli presided over a run-up event in Guwahati today.

The dignitaries witnessed signing of an MoU between NRL and the Government of Assam for setting up three bamboo nurseries, each covering an area of 5 hectares for carrying out secondary hardening of tissue cultured bamboo saplings and increase number of saplings using macro proliferation methods. The three nurseries will be set up in the districts of Golaghat, Nagaon and Sonitpur in Assam. Bamboo cultivation brings in several societal benefits and is therefore termed as 'Green Gold'. The three bamboo nurseries will generate saplings that can be planted on 15,000 hectares of land area, thus will create a carbon sink that will fix 2.6 Lakh Ton CO2 from the air/ Year.

Thereafter, the ministers flagged off a fleet of EV scooters by BIKOZEE, a hyper-local logistic Start-up supported by NRL. The Start-up aims to empower and equip economically marginalized communities with a range of job opportunities in hyperlocal delivery sector. As an eco-friendly venture, Bikozee has adapted electric mobility option to combat factors such as climate changes, unplanned urbanization and increasing rates of pollution. It aims for a carbon emission free world using renewable energy only.

While interacting with media, the Union Minister said that very soon India will be a hub of Green Hydrogen production. He further said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been prioritizing Northeast's energy sector for putting the region in the high growth trajectory." He also informed that several other big projects in the sector are in the pipeline in the region.

Union Minister of State Rameswar Teli stated that the government was focusing on expanding the bamboo cultivation in the Northeast as the region is abundant in natural resources, stated a PIB press release.
