GUWAHATI: Named after the greatest integrator of Assam and formally inaugurated by KR Narayanan on November 9 in the year 1998, the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra has completed 21 glorious years and now stepping into its 22nd year.
On the occasion the Cultural Affairs department Assam and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society organized day-long programmes at Kalakshetra premise to observe the 22nd establishment Day. The programme started with a Diha Naam performance by the artistes of Samannaya Mahila Silpi Samaj and Navodaya Mahila Silpi Samaj lead by Jurimoni Saikia. A Speech Competition was organized among the students on the topic The Role of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in the development of Assamese Culture (Axomor Xanskritik Uttaranor Khetrot Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetrar Bhumika). A total of 37 students from different schools, higher secondary schools as well as Colleges took part in the speech competition. Besides this an art competition was also held in two sections on Srimanta Sankaradeva among the students.
The Cultural programme in the evening started with a Bargeet performance followed by a chorus titled Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra directed by eminent music artist Pulak Benerjee. Commissioner and Secretary of Cultural affairs department Preetom Saikia light the lamp in the open meeting of the Establishment Day. Besides two Rabha folk dance performance Hamja and Sathar and Shri Krishna Rash Leela performance in classical Dance form a dance drama was also performed. In connection to the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the dance drama titled Mahatmar Dristit Axom (Assam in the eyes of Mahatma) was performed directed by Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Ramkrishna Talukdar.
