GUWAHATI: Several trade unions of the State will join the nationwide protest on November 26 against the Central government's policies including new labour and farm laws as well as privatization of public sector units.

A joint committee of 10 Central trade unions has given a call for the nationwide general strike. In Assam, the All India Road Transport Workers Federation (AIRTWF), the Assam State Committee has called for a Chakka Bandh on November 26 to oppose the government's 'anti-farmer, anti-labourer' policies, said State president Mathura Das.

Highlighting the plight of the workers, Das lamented that the government didn't provide any assistance to the transport workers during the lockdown.

"The new toll gates installed in various places are harassing the vehicle owners. Many workers have been affected as vehicles are barred from entering Meghalaya. With all these issues, we will support the nationwide protest," added Das on behalf of the AIRTWF state unit.

Meanwhile, North-Eastern Region Oil Workers Coordination Committee (NEROWCC) has also showed their support to the agitation.
