GUWAHATI: Consumers' Legal Protection Forum (CLPF), Assam wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) over the sale of tobacco products in the State. In view of the COVID pandemic, the CLPF demanded the Chief Secretary and the DGP to strictly execute the ban order on sell of gutka, tobacco etc. in market with immediate effect.

In the letter, Advocate Ajoy Hazarika, Secretary, CLPF, Assam, alleged, "At the time of lockdown, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam instructed all district administrations to issue instruction for citizens on strict ban on gutka, tobacco etc. and prohibition of spitting in public places. After that instruction too, the selling of gutka, tobacco etc. is not completely stopped in most of the places. Most of the street vendors are selling gutka, tobacco etc. openly."
