GUWAHATI: The 4th State Students’ convention organized by All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO) has started from Monday and will continue till September 11.
On the first day of the convention, the students from different parts of Assam including Lakhimpur, Jorhat and other districts of lower Assam and Barak Valley, took out a protest rally from Guwahati Railway station to Lakhidhar Bora Kshetra. The students came out with placards with demands to scrap the National Education policy 2019 as well as the semester-wise and CBCS systems.
The other demands included creation of proper infrastructure for online form fill-up in schools and colleges, provincialisation of venture schools, resuming the system of pass and fail from class one, to stop commercialization and saffronisation of education. They also demanded the development of proper infrastructure of the medical and engineering colleges, providing grants for infrastructure development of Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Cotton, Assam and Tezpur University, to appoint permanent teachers, and many others.
Raging that the current scenario in the education system is both commercialized and saffronized, AIDSO appealed the students society to come together in order to fight against capitalism that is the root cause behind creating discrimination among the students.
Comrade Asit Bhatacharya attended the convention as the Chief speaker. AIDSO All India President Kamal Sai inaugurated the programme, while the other dignitaries and speakers present in the dais include Comrade Jitendra Chaliha, Comrade Chandralekha Das, Comrade Kantimoy Dev and Prajjwal Dev.
