GUWAHATI: The All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students' Union (AASKSU) has alleged that large scale corruptions have taken place in the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) with the involvement of Council CEM DipuRanjanMakrari.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday, AASKSU president RatanKachari said the development works under the Council are at standstill due to the rampant corruption.
The AASKSU demanded a CBI inquiry against the scams in the Council. It also demanded an investigation of the personal assets of Makrari.
"On December 5, 2016 a scheme was taken to provide 6,536 bundles of tin roofing sheets to beneficiaries. Rs 4,571 were granted for per bundle of tin where every bundle will contain 9-feet-long and 0.50 mm four roofing sheets. However, they provided low quality roofing sheets with thickness of 0.35 mm. Due to this, the beneficiaries refused to take the tin," Kachari alleged.
Further, Kachari said Dibrugarh DC and the Chief Minister were informed about the scam but no inquiry was initiated.
"The SonowalKachari Yuba Mancha registered a case at Dibrugarh Police Station. The inquiry also revealed that the tin were of low quality however no action was taken against the CEM.
"Rs 50 lakh was allocated by the Chief Minister for construction of Sonowal house at Baitho Temple in Sonaighuli. Now the CEM is conspiring to swindle the funds. Makrari is trying to use the funds for the construction of a guest house in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur. However the guest house has already been completed," Kachari added.
