Suspended DIG Rounak Ali Hazarika's wife grilled, statement recorded in Court

GUWAHATI: Sleuths of Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell on Thursday interrogated arrested suspended DIG Rounak Ali Hazarika's wife Nusrat Rounak Hazarika in connection with disproportionate assets (DA) case of the arrested IPS officer.

It is revealed during the course of investigation that the arrested IPS officer had kept all his property and assets in his wife's name.

After interrogation, the CM's SVC has brought Nusrat to the court of the Special Judge, where her statement was recorded.

On the other hand, the CM's SVC also arrested a person identified as Farid Ali from Solapara in the city on charge of depositing cash in Rounak Ali Hazarika's daughter's bank account.

The court has remanded the youth to judicial custody.

Sources informed that the suspended IPS officer had kept his ill-gotten money with Farid Ali, who in turn deposited the money in another individual's bank account and he tactfully deposited in Rounak's daughter's bank account.

According to initial report, Farid had deposited a total of Rs 25 lakh at Hazarika's daughter's bank account. However,the amount may go up during the course of investigation.

Hazarika, who was arrested by CM's SVCin connection with a DA case, has been facing another inquiry on his health as he tried to mislead the investigators pretending to be sick.

Hazarika landed in controversy after the state government had suspended from his post on July 20 this year for his several foreign trips without prior permission from the government.

On the basis of specific inputs, CM's SVC conducted a probe on disproportionate asset case and registered a case vide No. 06/2021 under sections 13(1)(a)(b)/13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Hazarika has possessed immovable and movable assets which is disproportionate to his known sources of income from 1992 to 2021.

Hazarika also incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs 1,74,12,974 as educational expenditure of his two children till date.

From the international travel history of Rounak All Hazarika, it was revealed that he travelled abroad nine times without permission from competent authority.

Apart from his house at Hengerabari, the senior IPS officer also possessed a house at Dhirenpara (which has been used as a godown) and a residential house at Down Town area in Guwahati and a resort in his wife's name in Shimla city.

Apart from a salary account in State Bank of India (SBI), the officer and his family members have accounts in Axis Bank, Yes Bank etc. and huge amounts are deposited in cash while he was posted in Bongaigaon from 2019-2021.
