GUWAHATI: Tension prevailed at Beltola Jama Masjid here on Sunday evening after a group of 15 'suspicious' persons entered the masjid's premises to offer namaz. The masjid authorities raised suspicion on the group as their ways of offering namaz were not correct.
The 'suspicious' persons also refused to show their identity proof following which the masjid authorities informed the Basistha Police Station. Out of the 15 persons, six fled the spot.
A case (159/2021) was registered at the Basistha Police Station. However, the persons were granted bail later in the evening. The masjid authorities have slammed the police authorities for not 'cooperating' with them.
In this regard, BeltolaJama Masjid Committee secretary Mustafa ParvezAlam said, "The persons didn't even have the minimum knowledge of namaz. The police granted them bail without identifying their IDs. Without contacting us they released the persons and we are not satisfied with the discussion we had with the police. Maybe, the group was trying to do something untoward which they failed to do because of our awareness.
Meanwhile, addressing the media persons, Joint Police Commissioner DebarajUpadhayay said, "The investigation is on and the police are yet to have a detailed verification of the persons. The persons were granted bail according to the law as the FIR was lodged under bailable sections."
