GUWAHATI: Swachhta Fortnight at Guwahati Refinery began on Monday with a pledge-taking ceremony organized at the administrative building lawn which was attended by the senior officials of Guwahati Refinery, members of both the collectives, CISF and Home Guards. In the programme, Executive Director, S Manchanda, administered the swachhta pledge to all in order to realize the vision of the Government of India to transform the country into a ‘Clean India’.
In his speech, Manchanda urged all to continue devoting their time and energy towards cleanliness so that the vision of clean India is met. He further said that since the launching of the flagship programme back in 2015, it was still a long way to reach the objective set by the central government, and that the citizens should renew strength and generate mass awareness about the programme. He also urged all the employees to participate in the activities lined up for the fortnight and contribute in successful observance of it.
In the effort to ensure an effective observance of Swachhta Pakhwada, Guwahati Refinery has lined up a number of programmes including cleanliness drives across the installations and departments, clean-up of historic Jorpukhuri in Guwahati city in coordination with Kamrup(metro) district administration, public talk on waste segregation by prominent environmental scientist Dr. Pradip Baishya, value added craft refresher course at Kajalichaki village, handing over of completed toilet blocks at Narengi High School and NE College of Hearing Impaired, Awareness drives and quiz competitions amongst school students, street plays on importance of Swachhta in prominent locations of the city, sapling distribution, and plantation drive at Gauhati University etc, a press release stated.
