Swaraj Asom moves CBI for probe into PM-Kisan scheme

GUWAHATI: The Swaraj Asom wrote a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) urging it to probe into the anomalies in the distribution of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) benefits.

The Swaraj Asom urged the CBI to investigate the matter and find out the culprits working at different levels and book them under the relevant provisions of the law.

In the letter, Swaraj Asom convenor Bhaben Handique stated that the beneficiaries selected for the scheme include businessman, government employees, technicians and even students who are relatives of many Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.

"In the face of tremendous public pressure the Government of Assam has now requested the ineligible beneficiaries to return the money which were illegally deposited into their bank accounts. Surprisingly the Government has not yet taken any step to bring the culprits responsible for this fraudulent act to book. The officials and the members of the selection committees and those who approved the fraudulent lists prepared in violation of the guidelines of the Government of India on selection of beneficiaries are all liable for prosecution for corrupt practices and embezzlement of public funds under the provisions of law. Considering the fact that powerful government officials and political leaders are involved, it is felt that only the CBI can unearth the complete scam and bring the guilty to book for prosecution," stated Handique.
