Target: 1 lakh corona test in Assam today (12 August)

GUWAHATI: August 12 is a day of the real test for the State Health and Family Welfare department that has a self-set target of conducting 1 lakh corona tests in the State on this particular day. The department is also determined to carry out COVID tests at this pace for a few more days.

According to official sources, till Monday the department conducted over 14 lakh tests. Dead on target of the department is to conduct maximum corona tests in the State to defeat the occurrence of the virus.

In Guwahati the target of the department is to conduct corona test of around 35 per cent of the total population of the metropolitan city. The city has a population of around 10 lakh.

According to statistics made available by official sources, the department conducted 60,425 tests on August 10 when as many as 2,900 people tested corona positive, registering a corona positive rate of 4.79 per cent. While 382 positive cases were detected in Kamrup (M), 294 were detected in Kamrup, 250 in Dibrugarh and 200 in Nagaon.

On August 9, as many as 24,492 samples were tested, and of them 1,123 people tested corona positive, registering a positive rate of 4.58 per cent. While 240 positive cases were found in Kamrup (M), 121 cases were detected in Jorhat.

Meanwhile, Kalaigaon MLA Maheswar Boro (BPF) tested corona positive on Tuesday.
