GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metro District Administration on Friday constituted task forces to control the surging prices of essential commodities. The task forces will monitor the prices of rice, cooking oil, dal, eggs, and vegetables including potatoes and onions. It will visit the market places and if needed, it will take action against the vendors who are found to be selling the commodities at inflated prices.

A total of four task forces have been constituted which include – executive magistrate, officials from Civil Supplies Department, Weights and Measures, Agriculture Marketing Board, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, and local police.

The task forces were constituted during a meeting conducted by the Kamrup Metro District Administration here. The meeting was held to discuss measures to tackle the practice of some vendors who sell essential commodities at inflated prices by taking advantage of the COVID-19 situation.

Chaired by Kamrup Metro Additional Deputy Commissioner Naren Das, the meeting was attended by representatives of various traders' organizations, district administration, District Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and Assam State Agriculture Marketing Board.

Das appealed to the traders' to keep a keen eye on the market so that the vendors don't increase the prices of food items by taking advantage of the COVID situation.

The traders' asserted that they have sufficient stock of eggs, and vegetables including potatoes and onions.

Lastly, the traders' underlined that the markets are affected if the prices of food items are increased by the suppliers.
