GUWAHATI: The All Assam Primary TET Qualified Teachers Association (AAPTETQTA) welcomed the Chief Minister's announcement on regularizing the jobs of contractual and state pool teachers in the state. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressed the state after hoisting the national flag on the occasion of the Independence Day celebration in Khanapara on Tuesday and said that the posts of the contractual teachers are to be regularized.

The president of the association, Trailokya Deka, said, "The CM of Assam promised to regularized the jobs of all the contractual teachers working under Samagra Siksha and State Pool in the state soon. This has brought a sign of relief among the teachers in the state. 35,000 contractual and state pool teachers have been working in the state in primary and upper primary schools in different parts since 2012 and have been urging the government to regularize their posts. The BJP had promised to regularize the jobs of these teachers if the party came to power and also mentioned this in the party vision document. But after the party came to power, the regularization of the jobs was not implemented for whatever reasons. The teachers were making various appeals to the government to protect their rights. In many cases, the teachers were agitated as to the government's reluctance to grant them so."

"Our association had to go through various discussions with the government and the education system to get our rights and the posts of the teachers regularized. Our teachers are grateful for the promise made by the Chief Minister during the flag hoisting on Independence Day. We also expressed our gratitude to the CM for his interest in forming a committee to make this promise a reality," the association added.
