GUWAHATI: Sadou Asom Prathamik TET-Utrrino Shiskhak Samaj opposed the government’s decision that the service of the contractual and state pool teachers will be based on conditions.
In a statement, the president of the Samaj, Trailokya Deka, said, “The government has decided to regularize the jobs of 25,500 contractual teachers under Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and 9,500 under the state pool in various districts of the state. But the state education minister, Ranoj Pegu, made a strategic comment regarding the regularization of the teachers’ posts. We condemned this decision of the government to regularize the teachers’ posts based on conditions.”
“Under the Right to Education Act 2009 policy, TET was conducted in 2012, where candidates were appointed through a transparent process. But the candidates should have been appointed on a regular basis, but under the SSA, they were conditionally appointed. Later, in 2013, teachers’ salaries were paid as per the ROP. The 'teachers’ also received timely DAs, just like the regularized 'teachers’. The BJP in 2016 promised that all the contractual teachers’ posts would be regularized and if it comes to power, then in the first Cabinet meeting, it will take a decision on regularizing the contractual teachers’ posts.”
“Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in his speech on Independence Day, 2023 that all the contractual teachers under SSA will be regularized and this announcement brought a ray of hope among the contractual teachers. However, the condition that the Education Minister had put on for the contractual teachers have left the teachers with utters disappointment.”
“The government-based condition for the teachers is not acceptable in any way. This decision does not have any service value and will break the seniority of service. If a contractual teacher dies, then the family gets one-time financial aid, but if a regular teacher dies, then the family gets a family pension, and we want to bridge this gap.”
The Samaj further said that “in the regularization process, there should be continuation of the service and there should be no fresh appointments.”
