GUWAHATI: A survey undertaken by Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) unfolds that 581 children in four educational blocks in Goalpara and Dibrugarh are still not enrolled in schools. Some of them have been found dropping out from schools, while the remaining are completely deprived of school education. The Secretary General of ASPTA Ratul Chandra Goswami said, “This survey was conducted on 9140 families in the districts of Goalpara and Dibrugarh under EFAIDAS project. And it revealed that 473 children were dropped out, whereas 108 were completely deprived of school education. In a total of 581 children, 204 are girls and 377 are boys. The four educational blocks are Tengakhat and Jaipur in Dibrugarh district, and Matia and Lakhipur in Goalpara district.”
Further, Goswami informed, “As per NEP (National Education Policy, 2020), about 3 crore 20 lakh children are deprived of school education across the country. And according to SSA (Sarba Siksha Abhiyan, Assam), there are about 1 lakh children who are deprived of school education in the state.NEP has aimed to enroll each and every child in schools.”
Goswami added, “This is also the responsibility of all teacher associations to encourage the enrollment of children in schools. And similarly, ASPTA also started enrolling such children from March 1, and is committed to achieve full enrollment by the end of March. The mission has initiated from Goalpara today.” He also informed that ASPTA had started this mission back in 2021, in which 111 children from the educational blocks of Rani Rampur and Demoria in Kamrup were enrolled under EFAIDAS project.
