TET passed candidates request Dispur to appoint 8,000 teachers

GUWAHATI: The All Assam High School TET Passed Candidates has requested Education Minister Ranoj Pegu to consider filling up a minimum of 8,000 posts in the secondary schools of Assam.

Talking to The Sentinel, the association's secretary Mujakkir Hussain said, "The Secondary TET in Assam was held on January 19, 2020, and the result was announced on March 4, 2020. A total of 35,814 candidates appeared in the examination, out of which 12,032 candidates were declared as passed. Afterwards, on September 11, 2020, the Secondary Education Department published an advertisement for the appointment of secondary teachers for a total number of 5,746 posts. Out of the advertised posts, 4,190 posts were filled up and the candidates were appointed on February 5, 2021. It can be seen that the number of posts filled up is very less compared to the number of total passed candidates in the secondary TET, Assam, 2020. As a result, as many as 7,842 Secondary TET passed candidates have been unemployed to date."

He stressed that a very huge difference is seen in the academic marks of the older batches when compared to those of the latest batches.

"These candidates are left unemployed as they could not compete with the younger candidates in the academic marks which led to hopelessness in their minds. If there were sufficient posts available, this problem would not have affected them. It is true, that a huge number of posts of assistant teachers in the secondary schools are still vacant. Consequently, the quality of education is affected in secondary schools. Hence, for the betterment of the quality of education in the secondary schools, and considering the security of the aged candidates, the Secondary TET, Assam, 2020 passed candidates request for filling up a minimum number of 8,000 vacancies of teachers in the secondary schools," Hussain added while talking to this correspondent.

He underlined that the previous government took very inspiring and powerful steps in the education field which motivates and makes these candidates very hopeful regarding fulfilling their dreams.

He also underlined that the association has already submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister highlighting our demands. Recently we met the Chief Minister and donated Rs 20,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The CM gave a positive response and said that government will hold discussions to address the issues of the association.
