GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asom Prathamik TET-Uttirna Shikshak Samaj (SAPTUS) has opposed the criteria announced for regularization of teachers in the State.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, the Samaj said, "The State Government did declare that it would give regular status to all contractual teachers under the SSA (Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan). We did welcome the move. However, the latest agreement given to the TET teachers by the government has baffled us. The new agreement is set to disrupt the continuation of service period of teachers who have been working since 2012, make them sign another contract, instead of regularizing their posts. This is an attempt to block regularization of teachers in future. The Vision Document of the BJP did say that the post of TET teachers would be regularized if the party was voted to power. That assurance has not been translated into reality. However, the neighbouring State of Manipur has regularized the post of TET teachers. We've taken a decision not to sign the new agreement as that will be suicidal for us."
