GUWAHATI: A number of trade unions and employees' federations got into a huddle to stage Bharat Bachao Andolan (Save India agitation) in Guwahati on Monday in support of preservation of public resources and for the sake the rights of famers and workers.

The joint forum has INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AICCTU, AIUTUC, UTUC, TUCC and other employees' federations as participants. Their demands include making healthcare services free of cost for all; immediate stop to privatization of public sector undertakings like Raiwlays, Electricity, oil, coal, defence and banks; free of cost supply of ten kg rice and other essential commodities to the people who have lost their sources of income during the COVID-19 outbreak; paying Rs 7,500 per month to each of motor transport and workers in unorganized sector who cost their service due to the pandemic; hike in the daily wage of tea estate labourers to Rs 351 and issuance of the notification to that effect; cancellation of EIA 2020; rollback of the Act to acquire arable land and the Act on labour reforms, etc. Assam State AITUC general secretary Ramen Das and many other leaders were detained by the police.
