Traders condemn GMC's move to increase trade licence renewal fees

GUWAHATI: The All Guwahati Traders Association (AGTA) had condemned the move of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to enhance the trade licence renewal fees for the financial year 2020-21 from Rs 1,750 to Rs 8,750. In an executive meeting held at the AGTA office in Paltanbazar, the body stated the GMC has forcefully started to collect the same without informing or discussing with any traders'' body.

The AGTA stated that they had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal, the Cabinet Minister for Finance, Health, Education and Cabinet Minister for GDD & Law on August 20 and again on August 28 to resolve the 'unethical enhancement of GMC trade licence renewal fees along with other demands.

Due to non-response of the State Government, the executive committee has decided to send a team to the related Ministers for the further discussion and raise the demand and resolve it as soon as possible, said the AGTA.

Further, it stated that four years back, the CM had assured the AGTA and All Assam Traders Association to resolve the issue of hike of labour licence renewal fees to 100 times. However, till date the Government is unable to take any decision. Thus, before the proceeding of any agitation, for the last time the association will send a team to related minister of the Government of Assam.
