 GUWAHATI: A one day Training Program on “Prescriptive use of Pesticides and Enforcement of Insecticide Act, 1968” for the officials of Agriculture Department was held at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati on Wednesday. The training program was organized by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration of Government of India and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, stated a press release.

During the program, Dr Rudra Narayan Borkakoti, Scientist, RARS, Shillongani spoke on the usage of pesticides in crops. He opined that most of the farmers use it as the only way to control the pest attack which leads to harmful effect in the produce. He stressed that use of pesticides should be the last resort to get rid of the pests. Dr Mir Samim Akhtar, Deputy Director (Entomology), Department of Plant Quarantine and Storage Faridabad GOT, in his presentation, narrated the sampling procedure to be followed by insecticide Inspectors and discussed on limited use of Pesticides.

Dr Nripen Medhi, Joint Director of Agriculture, Kokrajhar elaborated the harmful effects of using pesticides. He spoke on the prescriptive use of pesticides or crop protection materials and methods to address the ongoing pesticides residue problem.
