Transport Department announced 25 percent bus fare hike

GUWAHATI: The Transport Department has hiked bus fares by 25 percent of the existing fares of different categories of vehicles. Although there was a difference of opinion when the hike was earlier proposed, the hike was long due and has provided relief to the bus operators.

City bus fares for route length of 0 to 3 km is Rs 5.48, 3 to 5 km is Rs 7.82, 5 to 9 km is Rs 10.94, 9 to 13 km is Rs 14.85, 13 to 17 km is Rs 18.75, 17 to 21 km is Rs 22.66, and 21 to 25 km is Rs 26.56.

Low-floor vehicle fares for route length of 0 to 3 km is Rs 9.38, 3 to 5 km is Rs 10.94, 5 to 9 km is Rs 15.63, 9 to 13 km is Rs 18.75, 13 to 17 km is Rs 22.66, 17 to 21 km is Rs 26.56, and 21 to 25 km is Rs 29.69. Trekker (Share Taxi) fare is Rs 9.38 for the first four km after which it will increase to Rs 1.56 for every km covered. Auto Rickshaw fare is Rs 25 for the first km, while night charges from (9 pm to 5 am) is 50 per cent above the normal rate prescribed.
