GUWAHATI: The core committee members of the All Assam Tribal Sangha and the All Assam Tribal Youth League met on June 25 to discuss the issues pertaining to the delimitation draft recently published by the Election Commission of India. The secretary general of the All Assam Tribal Sangha, Aditya Khakhlari released the keynotes of this meeting to media persons.

The organizations welcomed the increase in the number of constituencies reserved for the Scheduled Tribes from the previous 16 to 19, stating that this fulfils their previous demand of increasing their representation in the legislature with the growth in population. They also demanded that the Morigaon constituency should be reserved for the Scheduled Tribes as it was a reserved constituency till 1977. They also said that since the Bodoland Territorial Region falls under the Sixth Schedule, steps must be taken to ensure the proper reservation of seats. They also demanded the creation and preservation of a new Dimoria constituency in the Kamrup (metro) district.
