Tsangpo Apartment in Guwahati's Chandmari declared as Containment Zone

Guwahati: Tsangpo Apartment in Krishna Nagar of Chandmari area in Guwahati, Assam, has been marked as a Containment Zone on June 9 in view of the detection of COVID-19 cases.

Kamrup (Metropolitan) DC Biswajit Pegu, issuing the order, has directed the Circle Officer of the Guwahati Revenue Circle to seal the area with immediate effect until further orders are issued. This decision, the DC said in his order, has been taken "in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus in the said area."

After demarcating the area as a Containment Zone certain restrictions will henceforth be imposed in the area. Any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified Containment Zone have been barred until the area is declared "safe" as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of the Health and Family Welfare. Furthermore, the movement of any unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified has also been prohibited.

With the Centre announcing its strategy to "unlock" the country in a phased manner following the coronavirus-triggered lockdown, the focus has been on containing the virus in areas designated as Containment Zones.

During the period of Unlock 2.0, the future steps include a sharp focus on containment and surveillance including demarcation of Containment Zones, the Containment Zones to be notified on the websites.

The Government's health ministry has placed great emphasis on strict perimeter control in these areas, with only essential activities to be allowed. Moreover, the Government has resolved to initiate intensive contact tracing house-to-house search/surveillance in these areas so that the chain of transmission can be snapped. Also, emphasis has been placed on the identification of Buffer Zones to be identified outside the Containment Zones to contain potential new cases.
