GUWAHATI: After the recovery of the mortal remains of Sankari Dey, on Tuesday several suspected missing parts of Amarjyoti Dey’s body were recovered from Meghalaya.

The city police had launched a search operation on Tuesday morning based on the confession made by the three accused and recovered suspected missing parts of Amarjyoti’s body, including hands and legs, in the deep gorges of Dawki. The police also a T-shirt from another place in Dawki, which they suspect belonged to Amarjyoti.

Police had arersted Bandana Kalita (31) for allegedly killing her husband Amarjyoti Dey, a resident of Narengi, and her mother-in-law Sankari Dey (62), a resident of Chitrabon Path, Zoo Road Tiniali. Sankari Dey was a retired employee of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). Bandana’s two accomplices – Dhonti Deka was picked up from Tinsukia with the help of Tinsukia Police, and Arup Deka was picked up from Khanapara.

During police investigation it was revealed that Dhonti Deka was a tenant in Bandana’s father’s house at Bonda while Arup Deka is his friend. Bandana’s father Kamini Kalita disclosed that Bandana had eloped with Amarjyoti Dey when she was in B.Com second year. Amarjyoti and his mother Sankari Dey did not have good relations. Two years ago, Amarjyoti stopped Bandana from visiting her father’s house and about a year back he had filed for divorce from Bandana.

Kamini Kalita further said that Amarjyoti did not have a steady job. Sankari Dey had opened a cloth shop for him which he was supposed to run along with her nephew. However, he allegedly did not show any interest in running the shop properly. He used to take drugs and even forced Bandana to used drugs.

On the other hand, accused Dhonti Deka’s father Ramesh Deka said that his son had been driving a passenger vehicle for the last four years. He added that they did not notice anything suspicious in his behaviour and it was difficult for them to believe that he could have been involved in the two chilling murders. Ramesh Deka claimed that his son was innocent.

Accused Arup Deka had married on February 2 and his wedding reception was supposed to take place on February 22. His family also claimed that he was innocent and said that they had no idea as to how he got involved in this incident.

Meanwhile, police sources said that after killing her husband and mother-in-law, Bandana had visited many religious places and she was active on social media. From her social media posts no one could have got an inkling about the gruesome murders that she had allegedly committed.
