Two children killed after fire broke out at residence in Basisthapur

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, two children were killed after a fire broke out at a residence at Basisthapur in Guwahati’s Survey area on Thursday. As per reports, the victims are Ishan (8) and Ivan (3), who were playing on the first floor of the house while their mother and grandmother were on the ground floor of the house when the fire broke out.

Ishan was a student of Srimanta Sankardev Academy, Dispur. While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that it might have occurred due to a short circuit that further spread after a cylinder blast. Fire tenders reached the spot and were able to douse off the blaze. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed grief over the incident. Kamrup Metro DC is currently investigating the matter. It is to be mentioned that it was Ivan’s birthday on Thursday.
