Two-Day Diamond Jubilee Ceremony Of GCC Underway
GUWAHATI: Gauhati Commerce College, the premier educational institution in the Northeast, especially in the discipline of commerce, celebrates its Diamond Jubilee on the 10th& 11th of September, 2022. On Saturday, the foundation day of the institution was celebrated with great Joy and enthusiasm.
Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahkar, the founder Principal, initiated the idea of starting a Commerce Educational College at Guwahati with some help from well-wishers and friends. He started this great institution 60 years ago on the day of 10th September 1962. Dr Lahkar served this great institution as its principal for more than 34 years and because of his vision, commitment, dedication and strict discipline, this institution has become the pioneer commerce college of the Northeast.
Today's program started with the hoisting of 61 flags to mark the Diamond Jubilee, followed by Swahid Tarpan at the Swahid Bedi. A statue of Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahakar, which has been erected and installed by one of his favourite students Aneel Goenka, president of the GCC ALCOM, (at the initiative of Alcom) was unveiled today by Srimati Dipali Lahkar, wife of Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahakar, Mr Sanjiv Lahakar, Senior Advocate & son of Dr BC Lahkar, Dr Homeshwar Kalita, Principal, Dr BK Das, governing body president and Aneel Goenka, GCC ALCOM president.
Later, the Narendra Kumar Saraogi Memorial classroom was inaugurated by the family members of the late Narendra Saraogi, and was felicitated by the college. Bedanta Baruah, an ex-student of GCC was also felicitated for donating 72 ceiling fans to the college team.
The open house was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp and a chorus performed by the students of Pronaamu Commerce College. It was attended by Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, DGP Assam Police as chief guest, Dr Achyut Chandra Bhaishya, Principal of GMCH, Sanjiv Lahakar, Shri Dighanta Biswa Sharma and Sri Aneel Goenka. A diamond jubilee award for humanitarian services during the Corona Pandemic was awarded to the Police Personnel of Assam Police which was accepted by Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, DGP Assam Police. Another Diamond Jubilee Award was awarded to the entire medical fraternity of Assam, which was handed over to Dr Achyut Chandra Baishya. Later, the DGP addressed the gathering and urged the college to think and learn not only about India but also about the current affairs of the neighbouring countries which will lead to an even vast knowledge base. Diganta Biswa Sharma, Sahitya Akademi Translation Awardee delivered Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahkar's memorial lecture on "Avatar Krishna in the light of the Gita in the vision of Shri Aurobindo". The lecture was hilarious and an eye-opener. The audience listened to the discourses patiently while enjoying all of it. Later Some 25 Old aged Anita and Koka from Pramod Talukdar memorial Old-age Home were felicitated by the college team & invited guests.
Dr BK Das, President, Dr Homeshwar Kalita, Principal, Dr Achyut Ch Baishya, Dr Rathikanta Pathak & Sri Aneel Goenka also addressed the gathering. The ceremony was concluded by the lighting of 61 lamps along with cultural programs performed by present students and a few invited artists.
On 12th September, A Grand 4th Alumni Meet has been organized by the GCC ALCOM, under the leadership of Aneel Goenka, President, Dr Homeshwar Kalita, Working President, Ajay Nawka, Vice President & Jayanta Talukdar, Secretary, which will be attended by Sri Ashok Singhal, Honorable Minister, Assam, and also GCC Alumni, as CHIEF GUEST, Sri Pallab Lochan Das, Member of Parliament, Sri Mrigen Sarania, Mayor of Guwahati as Guests of honour, Shri DigantaBiswaSarma, as Inaugurator & Sri Kamal Nayan Choudhury, Senior advocate, as Keynote Speaker, a press release said.
