GUWAHATI: Assam filmmaker Dip Bhuyan’s films ‘Idiom of Rug’ and ‘Manas and People’ will be screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2020.
Idiom of Rug depicts the Monpa community’s heritage practice of carpet or Rug making and ‘Manas and People’ shows the life and cultural heritage of the people living in Manas.
The documentary film ‘Idiom of Rug’ has been produced by Films Division of India and it portrays the nomadic herding practices of Brokpa group of Monpa Community including the practice of rug making that signifies their traditional knowledge system and ecosophy. Jayanta Kumar Sarma has worked on this film as the associate director whereas Sayanika Dutta is associated with the film as the assistant director. The film also depicts the worries relating to the continuation of cultural heritage in the context of globalization.
‘Manas and People’ has been produced by Forest department of BTAD, Directorate of Manas National Park and Aaranyak Guwahati. The film is an outcome of more than 2 years of independent research carried by Jayanta Kumar Sarma and supported by Aaranyak Guwahati. Sarma has also worked on this film as associate director which reflects the way of life and cultural heritage of people living nearby the natural heritage Manas including the bio-culturalism of the Bodo community in the midst of wilderness.
‘Idiom of Rug’ will be screened on January 31 and ‘Manas and People’ will be premiered on February 2 at Mumbai International Film Festival under special showcasing of film of North east India. It is to be noted that the editing work of both these films has been done by Simanta Sandilya Sarma.
