Ugratara Theft Case: Accused produced before CJM court in Guwahati

Guwahati: Following the recovery of the centuries-old Ugratara temple idol by the Golaghat Police, Latasil Police on Thursday produced the arrested persons at District & Sessions Judge Court, Kamrup (M) IN Guwahati for their alleged involvement in the theft case.

As per media reports, prior to being produced in the court, the arrested persons will undergo medical tests. The idol was recovered from the backyard of Adil’s house.

Latasil Police had taken the custody of the idol.

It may also be mentioned that a new idol of Devi Sati was supposed to be ceremonially installed during the upcoming Ugratara Mahotsav.

Meanwhile, on May 1, 2019, the management committee of the Ugratara temple had informed the media that both the idols, new and old, will be installed in the temple.

Earlier, Golaghat Police acting on a tip-off managed to recover the Ashtadhatu (a blend of eight precious metals) idol of Maa Ugratara and other precious ornaments which were taken away by a gang of thieves on November 17, 2018.
