Guwahati: A shopkeeper from Guwahati's Panjabari area has been arrested for a brutal assault on a cat that led to the death of the animal, reports said. A video of the beating was recorded on camera, and was shared on social media platforms.

Jyoti Pathak, the owner of a grocery shop at Juripar in the Panjabari Road of Guwahati, reportedly beat a stray cat with a stick. The heavy blows dealt with the stick grievously wounded the animal.

Although some good samaritans took the wounded cat to a nearby veterinary clinic, it proved to be a little too late. Three days after it sustained the injuries at the hands of the shopkeeper, the feline passed away.

Following the incident, an FIR was lodged at the Dispur police station and the accused was apprehended. However, he is now out on bail, police said.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms, causing massive outrage among the public. The incident is being seen as a gross violation of human rights and netizens have condemned the shopkeeper for his cruelty that led to the death of the animal.

The video has been extensively shared on social media platforms, and continues to cause massive shock and outrage across Assam.
