GUWAHATI, Jan 12: TheNational Youth Day was celebrated by Gauhati University NSS Cell on Tuesday through a webinar. The objective of the webinar was to celebrate National Youth Day to honour the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and to give exposure to the student community regarding life, thinking and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Attending the programme as key resource person social worker and follower of Swami Vivekananda Dipankar Mahanta enlightened the students about the life and ideals of Swami Vivekananda which can lead to youth development by bringing about positive changes in the behaviour and discipline of oneself. Mahanta explained how Swamiji had advocated for development of the sense of nationalism to bring unity amongst the Indians. In the beginning Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director Students' Welfare, G.U. and Programme Coordinator, GU NSS Cell welcomed all the guests and the participants and in his welcome address he focussed on the theme 'Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building' with the aim to share the vital thinking of Swami Vivekananda amongst the youths.
He reminisced how Swami Vivekananda had started early in his life and mesmerised the world with his thoughts and ideals. Dr. Kakati spoke on the basic understanding of youth and issues, to discuss and improve upon the existing programmes related to the civic engagement of youth. More than 100 NSS Programme Officers and NSS volunteers from the affiliated college NSS units attended the webinar.
