GUWAHATI: Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Regional Centre, Chandigarh under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Assam organized a webinar titled 'Break the Silence' on 22nd September 2020. The webinar witnessed the participation of 40 young girls from Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Kamrup and Kamrup Metro districts of Assam. The webinar was organized to impart training and disseminate scientific information on "Menstrual Hygiene Management"- a subject wrapped in a culture of silence and shame in society.
Speaking at the webinar, Sheela Sharma, Training Associate, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development said that women start their first period (menarche) between the ages of 9 to 13 years. "Therefore, the young girls should be given scientific information related to periods prior to menarche," she said.
