GUWAHATI: A woman was crushed to death by a wild elephant late on Tuesday night in Satargaon village, located near Chandubi Lake. The victim was identified as Kanchan Bala Rabha, aged around 65 years old. She was alone at home at the time of the incident, which took place at around 11:30 p.m. She came out of her house after hearing a commotion outside but failed to flee immediately because of the heavy rain. The lone elephant is expected to have come into the inhabited area in search of food and attacked and killed the women on the spot.

Jayanta Goswami from the Rani Forest Range visited the location of the incident on Wednesday morning with a team from the Azara Police. The body of the woman was later shifted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem procedures. It is important to note that this is the first time that someone has died in a human-elephant conflict inside the village.
