Poll promises keep coming

GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora has said that if the Congress comes to power in 2012, it will implement the Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) scheme.
Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Saturday, Bora said, "We extend support to all welfare schemes of the present government. However, we doubt their seriousness. Under the Orunudoi Schemes a woman will get only Rs 830 per month. With such a meagre amount how can a woman run a family? Why didn't the government take this scheme two years back, instead of implementing it when the Assembly poll is barely a few months away? With this scheme the BJP has lowered the benchmark of the people of Assam to Rs 830. This scheme is nothing but hoodwinking the people of Assam. This is an insult to Assamese women whose economic situations have been badly ravaged by the corona-induced lockdown.
"If we form the government at Dispur in 2021, from the very beginning we'll implement the NYAY Scheme under which Rs 7,500 will be paid to every poor family."
Reacting to State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass' statement on Friday that the Congress-AIUDF alliance would help the BJP garner more seats like that of Titabor, Golaghat, Mariani, Nazira, Doomdooma etc, Bora said, "In this election the BJP will be confined to 20-30 seats. Even Ranjeet Dass will have to bite the dust in his Sorbhog constituency."
