GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das has said that he will take political sannyas (political asceticism) if the BJP doesn't come to power in Assam in the 2021 Assembly election in the State. The State BJP chief has also dared his Congress counterpart Ripun Bora to make such an announcement.

Talking to the media on Monday, Dass said, "The Congress-AIUDF alliance is an ominous signal for Assam even though the BJP will come out winner in the forthcoming Assembly election in the State. We'll make a good show in Upper Assam, North Assam and Central Assam. We'll wrest Mariani, Titabor, Nazira, Golaghat, Doomdooma, Sivasagar, etc seats from the Congress.

"We've worked for the people of Assam. We never betrayed them. We've won their hearts. I'm saying that we'll be the winner in the 2021 Assembly election. If the BJP doesn't come out winner, I'll take sannyas from active and electoral politics. I dare APCC president Ripun Bora to make a similar declaration of taking political sannyas in the event of the Congress not being able to win the 2021 Assembly election in the State."

On Ripun Bora's query as to how the BJP-led Government at Dispur will pay Rs 830 to every poor woman when the economic condition of the State is in such a bad shape, the BJP said in a statement, "If the payment of Rs 830 isn't possible for the BJP, how will the Congress pay Rs 7,500 per month to such women. It's is a self-contradictory statement."
