Will Revive Closed Schools if Voted to Power, says AJP

GUWAHATI: AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) has said that all schools that have been closed during the BJP-led Sarbananda Sonowal government's tenure in the State will be reopened in the interest of teachers and students if the AJP comes to power.

In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said, "There has been no improvement in a large number of schools in rural Assam. Such schools have no infrastructure. They paint a grim picture. The environment inside classrooms doesn't encourage students. There has been an unusual hype in the appointment of teachers but their basic problems couldn't be solved.

"The State government has been taking the credit for appointing a large number of teachers. The fact, however, remains that the government has issued appointment letters to the teachers thrice. This government has made teachers, including headmasters, tutors.

"Even economists have made statements that the creation of beneficiaries has put hurdles for the development of the State. It has been reflected on the schools. By treating beneficiaries as voters, this government has dealt a blow on the self-respect of beneficiaries."
