Woman murdered and buried in a pit at Rangmahal village in North Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A young woman was murdered and buried in a pit at Rangmahal village in North Guwahati by her lover, as per reports received on Wednesday.

Sadeja, the deceased, was a resident of Phulbari in the Dhubri district. The Gouripur police in North Guwahati, in the presence of a magistrate, recovered the body from a paddy field on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused, identified as Sahirul Islam, strangled his lover to death and buried her in a pit. Islam hails from Goalpara and resides at a rented place in North Guwahati, sources informed. Islam was working as a contractual worker for the Public Works Department (PWD). The Gouripur police arrested him at his rented place on Tuesday night.
