GUWAHATI: Scores of women staged a protest at Beltola on Thursday against the skyrocketing prices of vegetables.
The women under the banner - XahokiMahila Manchavisited the BeltolaBozaar and interacted with the vendors. The women also asked the vendors whether Food and Civil Supplies Minister PhaniBhushanChoudhry has visited the market to take stock of the situation.
"Due to the surge in prices it is becoming hard for middleclass people to run their families. The onion prices have reached Rs 75 to Rs 80 per kg," said a protestor.
They also asked the shopkeepers about the reason behind the soaring prices and whether the government is taking measures to curb it.
"The government should take immediate measures to solve this issue. It is becoming impossible for us to run our households," another protestor lamented.
