GUWAHATI: A workshop on “Operationalization of Child-Friendly Spaces in Emergencies (CFSiE) during Flood Response 2019” was held at the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) conference hall here on Friday. The workshop was conducted to explore the feasibility of integrated service delivery to children affected due to floods through CFS in relief camp. It would also help in understanding different practices from other stakeholders who have responded to the needs of children during Assam floods 2019 like Dhemaji and Majuli districts and to enable exchange of learning and experiences from the field to a wide stakeholder group. Further, it would also help to formulate a strategy to roll out the child friendly spaces across the state in coming days.

The programme was inaugurated by MS Manivannan, Commissioner-Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA and organized by ASDMA and UNICEF in collaboration with State Education Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Social Welfare Department and Health and Family Welfare department. Manivannan focused on the importance of child-friendly spaces during emergency times like flood and other disasters and the need of the children during that period. He urged the departments and officials present to plan effectively and initiate necessary preparedness in advance so that continuity of normal services can be ensured even during emergencies, a press release said.
