GUWAHATI: Every woman in the world deals with the monthly menstruation cycle; however, the need for hygiene is met with silence and neglect even today. To create awareness among people regarding menstrual hygiene, every year, May 28 is observed as World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021.

Purpose of Menstruation Hygiene Day

The main aim to mark this day is to change the social stigma and taboo associated with menstruation.

Touch of Humanity tried to bring up an Awareness program relating Menstruation with mental health by a Facebook live session with Dr Mythili Hazarika, Associated professor in clinical psychology GMCH, her take encompass the biological, psychological, and social dynamics around the word ' menstruation'. The menstrual experience, behavior expectations, the social and cultural determinants which lead to mental health crisis in young girls and women are area of concern. The hormonal influences and diseases related to the menstrual cycle in association to mental health and well being had been discussed along with economic and resources constraints for women in today's world. The importance of mental hygiene and the management of physical and psychological well-being from menarche to menopause and beyond is been highlighted.

The responsibilities of the families and society to make the experience of menstruation as nurturing life rather than disrupting life as a gift to womanhood have taken a home message.
