ARUNACHAL PRADESH: Former Indian
cricketer Dinesh Mongia appointed as the head coach by the Arunachal
Cricket Association (ACA) for the upcoming 2021-22 domestic season.
The 44-year old former Indian cricketer took retirement in the year 2019 and has also confirmed that he is joining as the head coach of Arunachal's team.
Mongia was a part of India's 2003 World Cup side that reached the final. He played for India in an ODI for the last time in 2007, before joining the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) and subsequently facing a ban by the BCCI
Reportedly, commenting on being a coach, he said that Arunachal and some northeast states do not have very good infrastructure right now, but he will get the players to the ground and get the results.
Last Saturday Mongia had visited Itanagar and inspected the trials of the senior men's team at the Academy for Cricket Excellence in Nyorch.
On the other hand, Assam will face Gujarat in their opening game of Ranji Trophy Cricket championship which will begin on January 13 in six different venues. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahamedabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai will host the matches of the group stage while Kolkata will host the knock stage of the tournament including final. Assam are placed in Elite group 'A' along with Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Services. The matches of Elite Group 'A' will be held in Mumbai.
BCCI also announced the schedule of the Vijay Hazare Cricket championship which will start from December 8. Assam are in Elite Group 'E' along with Goa, Punjab, Railways, Rajasthan and Services. Ranji Trophy Schedule of group 'A': January 13-16: Punjab vs Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat vs Assam, Himachal vs Services. January 20-23: Gujarat vs Madhya Pradesh, Punjab vs Himachal, Services vs Assam. January 27-30: Gujarat vs Services, Punjab vs Assam, Himachal vs Madhya Pradesh. February 3-6: Punjab vs Services, Gujarat vs Himachal, Madhya Pradesh vs Assam. February 10-13: Himachal vs Assam, Madhya Pradesh vs Services, Gujarat vs Punjab.
