Scanner on dubious PhD degrees; DHE summons 70 staff from 42 colleges for screening

The Directorate of Higher Education has taken the initiative to verify the authenticity of the PhD degrees of 70 teaching and non-teaching staff of 42 newly-provincialized colleges.

Guwahati: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has taken the initiative to verify the authenticity of the PhD degrees of 70 teaching and non-teaching staff of 42 newly-provincialized colleges, and directed them to appear before a screening committee at the DHE office with their original documents on July 19.

The screening committee was constituted last year by the Government under the chairmanship of former Vice Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University, Prof Alok Kumar Buragohain to verify the MA and PhD degrees of teaching and non-teaching staff of the newly-provincialized colleges in connection with provincialization of their services.

Those summoned by the DHE have been asked to appear with mark sheets and certificates from HSLC level onward, joining letters, PhD degree notification and certificates, copy of PhD registration, copy of thesis, PhD-related NOC, birth certificates, migration certificates and caste certificates where applicable.

Those who have been asked to appear before the screening committee include Tutor Principals, Assistant Professors and Librarians.

One staff each with dubious PhD degree has been summoned from SBMS College, Chamaria Anchalik College, Bilasipara College, Udalguri College, Swahid Smriti Mahavidyalaya, Agia College, BC Medhi College, BH College, Bamundi Mahavidyalaya, Brahmaputra Degree College, Chatia College, Deomornoi Degree College, Dhemaji Girls' College, Harendra Chitra College, Gyanpeeth Degree College, Halakura College, Hatisingimari College, Kathguri College, Laluk College, Murazar College, Rampur Anchalik College, Salbari College, Rangsina College, Silapathar Town College, Sissiborgaon College, THB College, , Uttar Barpeta College, Sonari Commerce College, Silapathar Science College

Two staff each has been summoned from Hatidhura College, Harhi College, Nilbazar College, SS Madhab College, Sontali Anchalik College, Uttar Kampeeth College and Ledo College.

Three staff each has been summoned from Jaleswar College, Mangaldai Commerce College, Rajiv Gandhi College and South Salmara College.

Four staff has been summoned from AR College and Vidya Bharati College.

As many as six staff has been summoned from Simen Chapori College.
