SHILLONG: Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is on a 2-day visit to Meghalaya inaugurated the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong, Shillong.
Talking at the inaugural ceremony Shah said that it will improve road connectivity of Northeast and will make of the region an economic hub.
Taking to Twitter, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma wrote, "A befitting tribute to North East as Hon'ble Union Home Minister, @AmitShah ji who is also Chairman of NEC inaugurates the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong, Shillong."
Shah arrived in Shillong on Saturday for a two-day visit to chair a meeting with the chief minister of eight Northeastern states in which interstate border issues might be taken up.
Northeastern states include Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
The union minister is also scheduled to visit Sohra (erstwhile Cherrapunji) on Sunday to inaugurate an afforestation project, to inaugurate the Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme and he is scheduled to pay a visit to the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram there.
Reportedly, all markets and business establishments here have been ordered shut on Saturday and Sunday by the district administration despite the lockdown being relaxed to avoid any law and order issues.
