SITA, AAU sign MoA for livelihood enhancement

Guwahati: State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) and Assam Agricultural University (AAU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the presence of SITA vice-chairman Ramen Deka at Janata Bhawan today.

The purpose of the MoA is to execute the Integrated Approached for Employment Empowerment Adopting Scientific Organized Goat Farming for Livelihood Enhancement project.

SITA Chief Executive Officer MS Manivannan, on behalf of SITA and Director of Research (Veterinary) Dr Niranjan Kalita, on behalf of Assam Agricultural University, signed the MoA.

SITA Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka is hopeful that the project, an attempt for skill honing of small, marginal farmers and upcoming youth entrepreneurs, will be successful in enhancing the productivity of livestock and poultry, besides honing the skills of the women farming community.

State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) will provide financial assistance for "Integrated Approaches for Employment Empowerment Adopting Scientific Organized Goat Farming for Livelihood Enhancement" in Assam to be implemented by Assam Agricultural University based on the concept envisaged by Anajori Development Society as its implementing partner.

The aims of the project are - (i) uplifting socio-economic condition and economic empowerment of rural women, (ii) awareness generation and skill honing of women farming community with a focus on goats, and (iii) establishment of a village-level knowledge-sharing centre for the dissemination of technology and (iv) capacity-building of women farmers for undertaking goat farming as a profitable business enterprise.

AAU chief scientist Dr Dipok Bhuyan, junior scientist DS Hazari, SITA ARO M Rahman, and president of Anajori Development Society Dipankar Talukdar were present.
