Akhil's politics

Raijor Dol president Akhil Gogoi has suddenly withdrawn his nomination form Mariani constituency. This move has made Akhil Gogoi's intention clear. The KMSS leader without consulting his party members has withdrawn his nominations much to the shock of his supporters and party workers. There are speculations that Akhil Gogoi has a tacit understanding with the Congress. However, he may try to claim that he and his party will maintain equidistance from the BJP and the Congress, but his latest move has confirmed that he is working as a B team of the Congress. His withdrawal has helped Rupjyoti Kurmi (Congress nominee) who is fighting anti- incumbency wave in his constituency. Akhil's supporters too agreed that Raijor Dol was sure to grab Mariani this time around. Similarly in Sivasagar constituency the Congress has indirectly helped Akhil Gogoi by putting up a weak candidate. The prestigious Sivasagar constituency is considered as fort of the Congress which was represented by former Speaker Lt. Pranab Gogoi for three terms. However, this time Congress has bargained the seat.

Another issue which raises the eyebrows is that this time Raijor Dol will be fighting the elections without party symbol. It means the Raijor Dol is an unregistered party. All the candidates nominated by the party will be contesting elections as independent candidates. Thirdly, Akhil Gogoi is also breaching the alliance formula with the AJP. It is seen Akhil Gogoi has put up candidates in numerous seats where AJP has fielded candidates. Within a short period of time the real face of Akhil Gogoi would be unveiled.

Education from

regional languages

The decision to conduct the NEET in regional languages is a welcome move. The test will be held in 11 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Odia, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu through offline mode. The candidates must choose the option of the medium of question paper while filling in the application form. The new National Education Policy 2020 also emphasizes education in regional languages. This will provide opportunities for students studying Indian languages to reach a quality higher education. Hope that the decision will prove helpful for the students. This is the need of the hour.

Ensuing poll

I have not yet received updated Elector's Photo Identity Voter Card though submitted long ago. As I am a senior and ailing person, I cannot go to meet the officials concerned often. So I talked to them over phone. The officials replied that it would be distributed when they would come to the election office at Biswanath Chariali. I would, therefore, like to request the officers concerned to look into the matter. Further, I am a voter of 76 Biswanath Assembly constituency. My voter station is 171 Chariali Girls' Higher Secondary School (North). There are steps to enter the building of the voter station. As such, I request you to help me in the steps. I have four members, including me. None of us got voters' cards so far.

Vaccine rumours

The manufacture of vaccines put an end to the long wait after the outbreak of Covid-19. But the whole nation is now under the fear regarding the efficacy of the vaccines. Rumours are doing rounds, mainly on the social media, regarding the side effects of the vaccines. Every vaccine has some side effects. Taking the vaccine is voluntary, but one should not spread rumours to confuse others.

Lockdown period

Through your esteem daily I would like to express my concern over the present healthcare condition during the Covid pandemic. Recently I was admitted to a Guwahati city hospital. No doctor touched me to check. Consultants should have come and checked patients physically to find out the actual problem.

I know Covid pandemic is back. Doctors should take all precautionary measures and check patients. Even today some of the senior doctors in Guwahati attend to patients at their garages without physically examining them. They, however, take complete consultation fees.

A few months ago a doctor was bitten by a patient's relative. That is very bad. I personally don't support this kind of behaviour.

I am one of the victims of wrong treatment by a doctor. The Government of India as well as the State government should fix the rates of laboratory test, doctor's consultation fees etc., so as to put an end to the referral business.

The longest day

2nd May is the day when Assembly poll results for four States and one Union Territory will be declared, putting an to the long speculations. In the meantime, the election canvassing has reached its crescendo with star campaigners of all the parties trying to woo voters. The candidates belonging to all the parties are painting a very rosy picture about their prospects of winning forgetting the fact that we the electorates are the ones who have the right to give the mandate. Whether for the ruling party or for the opposition, 2nd May will be the longest day. Khela hobe.

Wrong choice

There are certain names in the history, which people in general regard with great hatred and humility. There are names like Hitler, Mussolini, Idi Amin, Osama Bin Laden, Joseph Stalin, to name a few. The peace-loving people want to forget them for their merciless deeds. In India, there is a political leader in the state of Tamil Nadu, whose name is Stalin (son of ex CM Karunanidhi, founder of DMK). For the information of Tamil people who are one of the most educated and cultured ones, Joseph Stalin, the then dictator of USSR killed his people. The numbers of people killed by Stalin was more than the Russians killed in World War 2. After the disintegration of the USSR and post-formation of Russia, the name of Stalingrad was changed to St. Petersburg in order to ease the memory of the tyrant Joseph Stalin.

Is it not a peculiar mindset of the founder of the DMK to name his son after Joseph Stalin. It is seen that one names his son/daughter after great personalities who have served humanity, not otherwise. Indeed a wrong choice.

Morning shows the day

The popular saying has always been correct in practical life. On 10th March, BJP candidate from Kamalpur constituency Diganta Kalita unveiled his real face when he tried to break the police barricade while on his way to file his nomination papers. This time, the Election Commission has set certain guidelines in view of the pandemic while filing nomination papers. The Election Commission has allowed two persons along with the candidate to enter the Returning Officer's chamber but Diganta Kalita tried to use his influence and muscle power while submitting his nomination papers. When the on duty police personnel tried to stop the excess people from entering the revenue circle premises, the BJP candidate misbehaved with them. He even abused an on duty lady constable for preventing his supporters from breaking the rules.

If this is the attitude of the contestant just imagine what would be his attitude if he manages to get through the polls and become an MLA. For everyone's information, the BJP candidate Diganta Kalita has many criminal charges against him lodged in various police stations across the State. The top leadership of the party could have fielded someone better than the present one.
