Violence over 'religious post'

Tensions prevailed in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra recently after allegedly an offensive 'religious post' went viral on social media. A few on social media claimed that the post in question was related to Prophet Muhammad. The violence was so spontaneous that the particular community went onto a rampage damaging several shops, houses and vehicles. In addition, the miscreants tried to burn down houses and shops, but the timely arrival of fire tenders averted the conflagration. The police are also clueless about the source of the post. The hand of the foreign source is also not ruled out. Nobody likes if their religious sentiment is hurt but resorting to random violence that too on the people of other religious faith is condemnable. This is the reason why people like Munawar Faruqui, a poor comedian by profession relish making a joke on Hindu's belief but always refrain from cracking jokes on Islam. People like Faruqui knows that the 'super secular' brigade will defend him till the end, so the likes of Munawar Faruqui and others take sadistic pleasure in cracking jokes on Shiva, Ram, Krishna, Hanuman, Maa Durga.

In the meantime, the leftist group that addresses India as the intolerant country is keeping stoic silent over the violence in the Yavatmal district. For them, it is the right job done by the believers of the Prophet to pounce on innocent people of other faith, but if it is the other way around, then India is highly intolerant and communal.

A challenge

Recently, by sheer chance, I had been to Sipajhar to attend a social function. The host advised me that I along with my family should visit Gorukhuti prakalpa, the most talked-about topic post the eviction of illegal encroachers which even drew the attention of the International Human Rights group due to all the wrong reasons. What I saw in the Gorukhuti project made me proud to be an Axomiya. The positive changes undertaken by the local youths of that area under the able leadership of Padma Hazarika and Paromananda Rajbonghshi are massive. I would like to request Bhupen Bora, the APCC president to pay a visit to the site personally if he has guts, along with his troops and challenge him to prove whatever he had done recently in opposing the eviction was right. Poor Bhupen Bora and his company are behaving like a fish out of the water after being ousted from power.

The very same challenge goes to our AASU leaders who claim to champion the causes of the sons of the soil to visit the new Gorukhuti to see the sea of positive changes undergoing there under the aegis of the indigenous people. The AASU should come out of its shell and lend its support to the administration to clear all the encroached land from people of doubtful origin.

Need of PRC

Through your esteemed daily, I want to update the aspirants that the process of educational PRCs (valid for applying to the Assam Police recruitment) is now seamless and quick. I got my PRC in just a week time including Sunday. One should go to Common Service Centres (CSC)s and apply for it online or by using the Umang app.

So from this medium, I request the Government of Assam to not have other options as proof of residence in Assam as Aadhaar and other documents can easily be made in Assam by residents of other states if they have any relative or family friend here. This act has been going on for a long time in a few districts of Assam where candidates of other states are serving as employees or students but they neither understand nor can speak Assamese and just taking advantage of the loopholes. Assam police recruitment is for solving the employment problem of Assam and not of Bihar, UP, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura etc. It is the dream job of lakhs of enthusiastic youths of Assam and they are toiling day and night for the same.

So it is imperative to have PRC as the only document for residence proof and verify the same strictly during 'Document verification'. This should be done for all recruitments of state, PSU and Central government in the state of Assam to solve the long-burning of Assam for decades instead of Clause 6 recommendations.

The birth rate in India

Indian women must be credited for stabilizing the population in our country with a birth rate of 2 children per family as per the National Family Health Survey-5 released recently. 2.1 children per child-bearing woman are globally considered to be the 'no growth' statistic. Fortunately for India, 65 per cent of the population are younger than 35 and 50 per cent are younger than 25 at present. Gratifyingly enough, the population growth in India has been stabilized without having to resort to draconian measures like China's 'One-Child Policy. But as the population keeps growing, so will conflict among people of different religions, cultural practices and linguistic diversity. People will live cheek by jowl as the fastest population growth will naturally happen in urban India. This will result in life becoming far more competitive with resources outstripping the demand. Nevertheless, the NFHS-5 result on the declining population in India is a case for contentment and is a job well done.
