NEW DELHI: The Union Health Ministry has postponed the examinations of 2022 NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) for admission in the post-graduate medical courses.
It is informed that new dates for the exam will be announced in due course of time.
On Thursday 3 February the NBE (National Board of Examinations) was directed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to postpone the examinations by at least six to eight weeks because of the reason that the NEET PG exams this year clashed with the counseling of NEET Post Graduate 2021.
Earlier on 25 January 2022, six MBBS graduates had filed a plea in the Supreme Court of India asking for the postponement of NEET 2022 which is scheduled to be conducted on 12 March 2022.
The doctors claim that majority of the MBBS graduates will not be able to prepare and sit for the 2022 NEET PG examinations as their mandatory internship period has not yet been completed.
The Medical Education ADG (Assistant Director-General) and Member Secretary of the Medical Counselling Committee, Dr. B Srinivas held a discussion on the matter with the executive director of the National Board of Examinations Dr. M Bajpai.
During their communication, Dr. Srinivas told Dr, Bajpal that in view of the postponement of this year NEET PG many of the representations are sent by numerous medical doctors requesting the same for the reason that dates of NEET coincide with the counseling period of last year's NEET PG.
The ADG Dr. Srinivas further stated that it will be difficult for many of the intern doctors to appear in the exam and participate in post-graduate 2022 counseling to be held between the month of May and June.
On Thursday 3 February a notice was issued which stated in concern of the doctors that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (HFM) has taken the major decision to postpone the 2022 NEET PG examination by six to eight weeks or with suitable dates. The notice added that the decision made by the Health and Welfare Ministry may be complied with.
