GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Assam's Guwahati has recently launched a new Bachelor's degree course in Energy Engineering.
The new BTech degree course will be offered by the School of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Guwahati. The course will start from the academic session of 2022-23.
The admission for the first batch will be carried out on the basis of JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Advanced 2022 counseling process. The first batch will consist of 20 students.
According to reports the fresh programmes in IIT Guwahati have been introduced with the aim to provide training to the youth about how to take a comprehensive approach in appraising the potentiality to expand technical interventions towards sustainable energy development and assessing the value of its necessity and requirements.
In addition to the main engineering courses, the BTech in Energy Engineering is designed in such a way that it bridge gaps between science, academia, economics, engineering, humanities, policy-making and management by incorporating programmes like policy-making, energy management, environmental and societal impact studies.
On speaking about the launch of the new subject, the director of IIT Guwahati TG Sitharam stated that with the recent time there has been major growth in and private sector investment for renewable energy and this will lead to expanding the job opportunities in various green energy industries.
The director said that the programmes will be much beneficial for students as they will acquire a fundamental understanding of energy storage and distribution, renewal energy infrastructure along knowledge about system development for sustainable carbon-neutral expansion.
The dean of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, K Mohanty provided a detailed description about the BTech in Energy Engineering's new and exciting fields of study that includes design thinking and energy innovation, device manufacturing laboratory and energy materials, entrepreneurship and community involvement among others.
The dean further informed that in the final two semesters of the course students will get the option to continue with the progamme of entrepreneurship instead of choosing 2 optional subjects.
