Abhay Deol Calls Anurag Kashyap Liar, Says Never Demanded 5-Star Hotel During Dev D Shoot

MUMBAI: In response to Anurag Kashyap's criticism of Abhay Deol's actions during the filming their movie Dev D (2009). Abhay spoke out against Anurag spreading false information about him in the media while promoting his Netflix series Trial By Fire. The actor refuted Anurag's claim that he had insisted on staying in a five-star hotel room while Dev D was being filmed. Additionally, Anurag was referred to by Abhay as "a liar" and a "toxic person."

Working with Abhay Deol during Dev D was "painfully challenging," according to Anurag in a 2020 interview. Anurag claimed that although the actor wanted to work on artistic films, he also desired the "popular advantages" and "luxuries of being a Deol." Actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol's cousin Abhay are also the elder Dharmendra's nephew. As the movie "was done on a very tight budget," Anurag had stated in the same interview that Abhay would "stay in a five-star hotel while the entire crew stayed in Paharganj" during Dev D's Delhi filming. This, according to Anurag, was the reason "a lot of his directors left" Abhay.

Since Anurag has been spreading false information about him, Abhay has criticized him. He stated in a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama that he "put my heart on my sleeve, and all that is fine - but you get taken advantage of, and then you get reactive." Therefore, Anurag Kashyap was a good teacher for me. Since I don't need toxic individuals in my life, I just choose to avoid him. Life is too brief, and there are still so many things to discover. But Anurag is undoubtedly a liar and a poisonous individual. And I'd warn others to stay away from him.

Abhay referred to Anurag as a "gaslighter" in an interview with Bollywood Hungama from the previous year. They had collaborated on the Anurag Singh-written and -directed film Dev D. The two never worked together again on a project after the movie. Dev D was a contemporary interpretation of the well-known Bengali novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Kalki Koechlin, Mahie Gill, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya were also in the movie.
